Symbian: Not Open Source, just Open for Business
-
As I had a look at this announcemnt:

Now the question is, how would Nokia benefit from this move ?
-
Following the latest announcement I believe that in long term Nokia is planing to benefit from Microsoft's Windows Phone and most probably all these changes are related to the new partnership.
-
I think they have a trick up their sleeve. I don't quite get why you would first open source Symbian, and then pull it back again though.
-
Maybe they are afraid that after they abandon symbian, the community will raise and make it more usable the their new win7 phones. :)
-
Nokia wants new customers who likes Windows phone 7,,and also they will hold their Symbian based customer, by launching new versions of Symbian OS.

There will be new versions of Symbian... for a while. As they told on that black day, Symbian will phase out by 2013, and win7 will be their main OS. The only Symbian that will stay is S40 for the low-end phones.

We all hope so but Nokia long-term plans are to promote Windows Phone as primary platform for smartphones. Despite this I am anxious to see the long expected Nokia N950. I hope that Intel will count on MeeGo for Tablets and netbooks. Btw I am using MeeGo on my netbook and very happy with it.
