I need to update the CSS for a QWidget component when the user adjusts their preferences. Is there a way to tell when update() has been called so that I can set a new CSS style before it is repainted?

      Hi
You could use an eventfilter to intercept the event before it reaches the widget.
      Sample here
      https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33883703/qt-event-when-anything-changed-on-the-window-screen-screenshot

      and doc about the filters
      http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/eventsandfilters.html
      Read this first :)
