Qt Creator online help no longer works
-
Hi,
I'm having problems with the online help function in Qt Creator. It used to work, but now when I try to open it, all I get is an empty window. (I have set up so that help pages are displayed in a separate window, rather than a pane in the main one.)
Any idea what may have caused this? Are there any config changes I can try or whatever? I suppose I could clear the entire QtCreator config, but I'd rather avoid this if I can.
I'm using Qt Creator 4.8.1. I haven't updated it, or switched Qt versions or anything, since everything was OK.

Hi,
I guess you are using Qt Creator 2.7? 4.8.1 is the version of Qt and doesn't correspond with the Qt Creator version number.
There has been some clean up on the help site with the goal to no longer maintain all different minor versions, but only the last one for a mayor release. Maybe that's the cause.
anyway, you can use "the Qt 4.8 docs from this link":http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/
hope it helps

Actually I meant version 2.8.1 - but yes, I probably mistyped because I was thinking about Qt 4.
Even if the help site can't be used, shouldn't the help window be able to display data from local files? Actually, maybe the term "Offline Help" is used by Qt Creator in that context, but normally I'd refer to any help integrated into the application as "online"...

bq. Even if the help site can’t be used, shouldn’t the help window be able to display data from local files?
Yes it should
Myself, I prefer offline helpfiles, so i don't know about the -offline- online thing.

It may actually seem like something is messed up with the way the help output is (re)directed. Like I said, I've been displaying help in a separate window, and if I select one of the help menu items or press F1, this window will (still) be opened or raised. The actual help text is, however, sent to the main window - I can see it if I select Help from the mode selection pane at the left-hand side.

I'm still not sure what was going on, but I managed to get the setup working correctly again by changing the On context help setting: temporarily to Always Show Side-by-Side, then back to my old setting, i.e. Always Show Help in External Window.
