But, google chrome is not liking the msvc 2012 5.2.1 release. Guessing this is a false positive as I'm trying to download directly from qt-project.org main site.

Hm, the download works for me.
Please try clicking the small "Info" link to the left of the download link: this will show you a list of all mirrors. Try some of them, maybe Chrome will not complain about those.
