In Tools > Options > Text Editor > Behavior. it's set to "Tabs only" but still every tab in .pro files is converted to spaces. The only solution is to use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V on tabs, which is rather ridiculous.

Seems to be the weird counter-intuitive behaviour when tab size is bigger than indent size - spaces are used even if it's set to "Tabs only".
