man i think your monitor doesn't support DDC/CI you should check it.

that program doesn't work on my machine it crashes after couple of seconds with the error message "ClickMonitorDDC cannot detect monitor, program will exit"

ok. worked fine for me on win xp, win 7, win 10.

i once posted a question about I2C bus error message in windows forum and one of the reply said "SetMonitorBrightness" won't work on desktop its for laptops :O

Well often only laptops/tablets have the hardware.
Tested in desktop win 10 and it it fail to read and set. (clickmonitorddc).

what do you mean by that ?

The harware needed for setting screen brighness is often found in
laptops screens and tables. for older screens its simply not supported.
I tried 4 here. and none of them allowed brightness to be set.
Only laptop and win 8 table allowed it.
