A drop shadow question

Qt 5.6 on Windows10. Using the analogue shapedclock as a template I created my own clock. I liked the old Windows7 desktop widgets clock with the red face so I used the face and hands from that. All works fine except that there are no nice drop shadows like on the original. Obviously something clever is going on somewhere and I cannot find it. I've searched here and in the documentation. Could anyone guide me towards a solution?
