I am not sure, but I guess you can try some thing like this..

Add linedit ans set to frameless
lineEdit->setFrame(false);
QLineEdit {
image: url(:/images/watermark.png);
}

and set it as complete transparent .

Maybe using a 3rd-party watermark tool is also a good idea. I have used Easepaint Watermark Expert to do so, and I think it's a good program, here is the tutorial: https://youtu.be/ELDjb9rMRt4
