Qt4 and Bitmap Fonts - Rendering Problems - Linux

I like using pixel/bitmap fonts, but they don’t render properly with qt4:

i’ve always had this problem across different linux distros, including ubuntu, both 32 and 64 bit.

I'm using QGtkStyle to port gtk themes to qt, including fonts. the same fonts display properly with gtk.

as a workaround, i'd be happy to tell QGtkStyle to use a different font.
but of course a real solution would be most welcome.

how could i solve it either way?
