I tried several alternative mirrors, and the mirror you linked is by far the best, but it still takes around 5 hours (!) to download. With a torrent on my home/office connection it would take at most 20min.

Thing is.. I am trying hard to convince my friends and colleagues that Qt is the best :) but then it wont even download...

Where do you live, may I ask? I'm in Australia and I'm able to get ~200 KiB/s with the ustc.edu.cn mirror.

If you don't mind using an unofficial build (and assuming you're on Windows), a maintainer of the MinGW-builds project is hosting Qt packages at http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingwbuilds/files/external-binary-packages/Qt-Builds/ . These packages don't contain a compiler, but you can get MinGW from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingwbuilds/

        Hi,

I am living in Israel, and we don't have a mirror here unfortunately.. I need an android sdk installer, so my guess I will just use the slow download for now and use a DVD :) to copy that home.

        10x for the tip anyway.

I see. Sorry I wasn't able to help you more.

All the best with your projects, and may you convince your friends and colleagues to see the light ;)

Just out of curiosity I have downloaded Qt5.2 MinGW offline version which is almost 700MB. The download from this original download site here was about 10 minutes. My Internet connection has a nominal 10 Mb/s. This is out of Europe.
I always thought my Internet is not very fast ;-) Will correct my view of the connection.

My university's connection far exceeded this (~80 Mbps), but alas, my home is not serviced by the same infrastructure.

This is through a standard phone line with ADSL. The lowest would be 5 Mb/s offered by the phone companies over here. However, the prices are not very good unfortunately.
The lowest speeds increased over a couple of years consistently. This is probably because the speed is the only way to get customers.

Israel is going through a renaissance of internet connectivity, so a 30~100MB is getting quite cheep these days.. for 20$ per month including a limit free phone line.. like Europe ;)

You know it's funny ... I just downloaded Samsung TV sdk 4.5 + WAMP server. around 750 MB total.. I am finishing installations.
The qt download I started a few minutes earlier has just got to 2% .. not exaggerating.. this is a joke..

Having said that, there are regions (even in the city) that are limited to ADSL1 services.

Fibre-based internet has JUST started to take off here. Unfortunately, the ruling political party has deemed FTTP too expensive and are commissioning FTTN + legacy copper cables.

I use DownThemAll (a Firefox extension) -- when you click on the regular link at http://qt-project.org/downloads , the accelerator can simultaneously connect to multiple mirrors and boost your download speed.

Unfortunately a bit more expensive here (Switzerland). About 65 US$ minimum with a major provider. 30Mb/s and unlimited national calls more around 110 US$ per month.
                          Wrong part of Europe :(
