WinRT support
-
Hi,
I just noticed that the ANGLE project now supports DirectX 11. (Thanks to your help?) Anyway I guess this means that the biggest technical roadblock to porting to WinRT is gone ... so does this mean that the WinRT port might get some real support behind it in the near future? IMHO that would be pretty incredible as I'm starting development of a cross-platform tablet app with Qt Quick (yeah Android and iOS support!) - and of course it would be pretty cool to be able to distribute it on the MS Windows Store too. ;) Actually I don't even really need the Metro UI controls since I'm aiming to keep the UI as simple and similar as possible on all platforms. But I do understand that even without that it's no trivial undertaking...
Cheers and thanks for the awesome tools!

Someone's already working on it :) http://blog.qt.digia.com/blog/2013/04/19/qts-winrt-port-and-its-ccx-usage/
In my opinion, WinRT is a dead cow. Windows 8 will run upon x86, even on tablets with new Intel processors, very well.
I wouldn't dismiss it. Desktop mode is available and is powerful (which are both very good things), but remember that the average user likes the ease of getting software through an app store. Heck, there's even an app store for Google Chrome browser "apps"!
Plus, app stores make it easier for small developers to sell their creations.

There are alternative desktop apps store for small developers
Check this, "intel app up":http://software.intel.com/en-us/appup
Looks like you could publish your apps onto winXP and win7 too,
the majority "rivals" of win8.ps : I haven't tried it, but I will.
