Encouraging news! It will be a tough challenge for start-up to start a pipeline for high-quality smartphone but their employees definitely have experience from Nokia!
It was confirmed at "twitter that their device will support Qt":https://twitter.com/JollaMobile/status/221730331986903040!

Although having no product (or even website) yet, they've already "signed a distribution deal":http://www.intomobile.com/2012/07/15/jolla-signs-distribution-deal-dphone-chinas-largest-phone-retailer/ with Chinas largest phone retailer, D.Phone.

I'm not betting my house on this venture yet, though I think it is very interesting. Wouldn't it be the ultimate "Up yours!" to Elop and the Nokia board were this to be successful? Former employees running off with a platform declared "burning" and beating Nokia at it's own game with it would be very painful for Nokia, I'd think.
Still, I am not convinced that it will turn out to be a viable mobile platform, as nice as it is. How many developers are really willing to invest into building apps for a platform like that? And without apps, how interesting is the platform for consumers? I can't wait to be proven wrong on this though!

Absolutely, I wouldn't bet a house on this venture yet too :)

I will because it will be fun :)
Additionally if Jolla devices are successful and developer can generate revenue more companies will be interested in publishing apps.
Btw did you read "the interview with Jussi Hurmola, the CEO of JollaMobile":http://www.intomobile.com/2012/07/11/interview-jussi-hurmola-ceo-jollamobile-audio-and-text-available/?
The relationship between Jolla and Tizen OS is also interesting. Seems that so far Jolla just keeps an eye on Tizen project but does not plan to join it.

Now I saw that the interview with the CEO of JollaMobile and the article posted by Lukas are by the same author. Seems that "he":https://twitter.com/WhatTheBit is a JollaMobile insider :)

I'm very excited about this news and impressed by what they did so far. And I for surely would develop for it as long as there is Qt onboard. I usually don't hang out much on the maemo foruns, but there is a lot of activity there so I really think that there's a huge community of meamo & meego fans out there. Also if Jolla plays it right perhaps it would be possible to runs android apps, I heard that has possible with meego but I don't really now. That would give a great head start. As for Nokia, unfortunnatly I thing they already passed the point of no return.
And last I found this "link":http://dominiescommunicate.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/nokia-qt-meego-and-meltemi-what-happened/ written by a ex Nokia dude about Qt, Meltemi and N950, very nice info to read.
By the way I writing from my Meego Wetab tablet :) (but with a usb keyboard) -

Here in Portugal we had tradition in huge industry in ceramic. But there was a company going bankrupcy due to mismanaging mistakes, so some employers bought the company for one 1 euro. Eventually they started exporting abroad, becoming very profitable. Inspiring true story :) -
