Can I add QAction to the About menu using progamming even I if i am using design view You can do it. That is the code I wrote and showed you.

Ok, added nasm to my environment variables. Made a little mistake there. Typing "nasm" into cmd now outputs: nasm:fatal: no input file specified type `nasm -h' for help However, the error in Qt Creator remains the same EDIT: It works now! Yes, because function pointers are function pointers, there's no "slot function pointer" that's different than any other method pointer. In fact you can use the pointer-to-member syntax even with methods that are not declared as slots.

Hey, thanks for the welcome, nice to know I am in the right place. :) Yes, I know about the WIreShark, I have all of that source and its mention of QT is what brought me here. I have a decent C C++ 'experience' but I've not tried anything in QT yet. I'll load up some of the samples and see where it takes me. I tried to just make a windows forms app in VisualStudio, and went to suck in the pcap code. Quickly learned that was a huge mistake. Their samples are great in a console but just not friendly, hence the port to the visual interface. Clearly I'm not ready to ask anything, code wise... yet. Thanks again :)

Hi, Since you have specific actions related to specific tabs, the most clean would be to have one QToolBar per tab and show/hide the toolbar based on the currently shown tab. This will keep things grouped.

@ChrisWeiter hi, Look at this link that I created for you. Build and run and look at thread's output. You will see all threads different. Then move line 17 into line 12 in RunnableOne.cpp then build and run. You will see all threads same. Look at Thread Affinity for more information. I don't know you really need threads. If you have long progress before sending a message to a socket, you can do it with threads. Also, I am not sure that my example is proper for your needs because I created from your code structure. It needs more stabilizations. I am warning you, threads really create unexpectable results. I hope I helped you.

Actually, the Ubuntu version I was using did not support the qt version. with Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and qt 5.11.0 using qt-unified-Linux-x64-3.0.5-online.run it did work I just needed as well to install a missing library using the following command on the terminal sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa-dev good luck!!

@sierdzio && @JKSH SOLVED! Thank you! Well, I have learned another lesson from this site: don't ignore the compiler. I swear I tried the new syntax, but could never get it to compile and the messages never made sense - probably too many little syntaxical errors that I have been slowly fixing (I'm still a noob). This time however, with one little change to @sierdzio's code (in bold below), that (as you said) the compiler clearly told me was a problem...it worked!! QObject::connect(&messageSorter, &MessageSorter::PCSMessage, &pcsMessageProcessor, &PCSMessageProcessor::PCSIncomingMessage); Thanks again for the help you guys provide on this forum - it helps keep noobies sane.
