Pressing Enter sometimes adds 2 lines instead of 1

Sometimes when you write a post and need to get to next line you press Enter and instead of getting to the next line you jump over it having 2 new lines instead of 1.

It may be created for the alignment purpose.

It might be. I also thought about this being done on purpose, so that there is a line for delimiting paragraphs. But it looks distracting. You are typing a message, press Enter and it behaves the way you don't expect. I think this should be configurable.

It's on purpose to avoid walls of text with no air in them, we had much of that before the change was made almost right after closed beta was launched. Now it works like in MS Word (not like OpenOffice though): enter starts a new paragraph (most of the time) and shift-enter forces a single line break.
I don't think we should change the current behavior but I agree that optimally it should be a personal config setting. Added to our wish list.

Hi Marius, I also noticed that you need to have a blank line before quoting something else it won't work, reason behind that?

Without having looked much into it I'd expect that to be a quirk of the forum software.

If we need to make something special we can use the CodeIgnitor PHP framework (frameworks are great ;) ) that ExpressionEngine is built on top of.

thanks for the info :)
