Forum moderating

chetankjain: I am just a gene splicer... I moderate the Tools forum now, nothing more. You will need to ask Marius or Alexandra.
Alexandra, Marius: Are you the only admins?
-
So far the only moderators are just Denis, you and me:-) Nobody else has the required level.
But I agree that a list of moderators and administrators would be nice to have (preferably incl. the areas of responsibility).

We will add moderator badges at some point, and there will be a moderator group once the groups module is out (this fall). This thread can work as our "home" for now I guess.
So far we have Tobias (Nokia) on Tools, Johannes on Games, Denis on Desktop, chetankjain all over and Hanne (Nokia) on Education. Alexandra and I are global moderators, but Alexandra is running the "who and what" of moderation.

Congratulations, Hanne! I had not noticed you became a Dinosaur Breeder yet!

I feel pinged...
thanks Markus, also is it recommended that moderators directly go and edit text to convert to links, add [Solved] to topic subject if solved?
I usually edit text and convert it to links if I stumble across something. We were thinking about automating that but so far it's not in. I don't think it's a big issue but definitely more convenient to have proper links.
The [Solved] addition to the title is a more tricky one. Currently, we don't have a real process for that. At some point - when we get our Q&A forum - there should be a proper solution where the original author is able to indicate that the problem was solved and by whom. In the meantime, editing the title by adding [Solved] in front sounds like a good idea. :)
Another one, is it so that only an admin can modify the FAQs? .. quite a few things (mostly minor) that could be fixed there :)
No, they are in the hands of the Qt Support Team, the FAQ's are exported from them every night.
We are adding a feature for them to monitor comments so they can update the FAQs as needed. Also we are improving our import procedure to remove FAQs that are no longer in the nightly export, we have some orphan FAQs now.

chetankjain: Short forms like 'u'? ;-)
-
one basic question, what if as a moderator you see someone using foul language or short forms like wtf .. do u edit or just leave it considering the context? very subjective right? :)
That's a tricky one. I'd say: it depends. The post shouldn't be offending to anyone or plain vulgar. But lines blur and what might be okay for one could be way off for someone else. Let's see how far we get with common sense.
If all fails there is still the "report" option.

@alexandra makes sense :)
