I have some problems with (found bugs in?) the popular tags list:

    • after made visible with a click on Show a list of popular tags it cannot be hidden easily
    • after selecting on tag to the edit line it disappeares instantly, but if the edit line is cleared out, it is lost until the list is shown next time
    • when adding a tag from the list to an partly put-in tag, both are combined into a new tag, the added tag disappears anyhow

Item 1: A refresh will hide it. We thought adding the hide feature would seem superfluous.

Item 2: Yes, I see your point, but I think we will keep it that way.

Item 3: This should indeed be fixed, adding it to our tracker.

Thanks for giving our tag module a run for the money, cheers :)

I have a date with the makers of "Tag":http://www.solspace.com/software/detail/tag/ in February next year, I'm collecting feature requests for a potential improvement project. Please do let me know if you have any thoughts on it, we aim for the sky! (mandatory disclaimer: while still observing the KISS and "only features you will actually use"-principle)

Yeah item 1 and 2 seem OK. If you showed the list you won't want to hide them until page changes anyway.

However, to give you some ideas, mariusg:
I noticed in the profile page that there is a list of 'tags by me'. Perhaps each user has their own unique/special tags that they contribute more so than anyone else. Only because they are looking for these tags and others have not tagged with this yet. So, should these tags not be included in the 'list of popular tags' as it would be more relevant for that user?

That is: list of all users popular tags + your popular tags.

Here I can not agree entirely. When tags cannot be selected from a restricted list (of any kind) they will be added more often with different spelling. Even if there was (is?) a merge function for tags, this will generate extra work. I therefore believe, that a [more...] button (or something equivalent) would be more useful.

..and thanks for adding item 3 to the bugs! (items 1 and 2 are clear now.)

I was trying to add a popular tag in the FAQ. As you may know, FAQ has a different list of popular tags (seen in the main FAQ page in bottom left).
However, the popular tag list shows all popular tags (across forum and wiki) instead.

It's just that the FAQs offer a separate list of popular tags (bottom left). So it makes sense to make use of this I thought.

I'm sure tags for FAQs are different from tags on forum, so why show the same popular ones when you already have a list of popular FAQ tags.

What I personally miss most in the tags is some sort of auto-suggestion based on existing tags. That would probably also limit the duplication (same thing, different spelling). Could be solved either by narrowing down the list of tags below the input field or by some sort of list showing below the field (think Google).

                  What do you think?

This sounds like a good idea. I think, a list, perhaps filtered by my current input would be perfect. So I see what exists :-)
