The breadcrumb in any wiki page (say Qt Quick Best Practices) currently just shows, Wiki Home >> Qt Quick Best Practices

Do you think its a good idea to show the category too, so the bread crumb would appear as

Wiki Home >> Qt Quick >> Qt Quick Best Practices

This will help in navigation too

Good stuff, adding it to the to-do list.

We will have to figure out what to do with multiple categories per wiki page, but we could just take the first one for the breadcrumb I guess.

would it be feasible to track how the user got to that page and then show the corresponding crumb ... if that is too much of a pain, then first category should be ok

That is a different style of breadcrumbs trail, a navigation trail (the original breadcrumbs, as in from the fairytale ;) ). Those are really quite nifty as well, though, and the data can be used for other interesting data gathering, such as who went to some page from what other pages more often. Everything2.com* operates in this manner, and it is... somewhat addictive :)

*E2 can be compared to the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy the same way you might compare Wikipedia to the Encyclopedia Galactica... to use a suitably geeky comparison ;)

I had to think about that for a while, but I got it now :D

mariusg, about multiple categories and breadcrumbs. I think that good solution will be to show in breadcrumb all categories in some drop-down list.

that would be good, but not sure how easy to maintain, when you consider nested categories .. might end up over complicating the feature

I'd only display the first category (that could be considered the main category). Don't know if anyone ever clicks on a category drop down box in a bread crumb ;-)

Most pages will have only one category, so to keep it simple I suggest we use the first occurrence of a category and use that.

Probably better ways to do it, but it's an edge case so lets make it as simple as possible, but no simpler (freely after Albert Einstein)

Our release manager, gurudutt here on devnet, is down with a cold this week (it's freezing here!), so we are a bit behind on our 14-day release cycle. But as soon as we are all hands on deck again, we will get it out. Possibly next week.

Back to the topic, first category is totally okay.
