Qt Developer Conference announced
-
Looks like there will be no Nokia organized Qt DevDays this year.
The good news is: ICS just announced the date for a Qt Developer Conference in Silicon Valley from 5th to 7th December. The dates for Europe are still to be announced.
According to the web page this is "Not a Nokia event, [but an] event for entire Qt community".
Right at the moment, a call for participation is out.
See the complete details at the conference web site: http://qtconference.ics.com/
Maybe "Peter Winston":/member/7105 of ICS will add some more info to the forums later.

I don't speak for Nokia. I don’t know why the announcement for DevDays was delayed, or what their plan might be.
I think that DevDays is part of what holds the community together, and its loss would be missed.
It takes many months to put on a conference and I felt time slipping by. If I was going to step in, I needed to start. If Nokia goes ahead with DevDays, I would try my utmost to fall in line or try to merge into their effort, or create an environment for them.
These are trying times, and I thought that having an event this year was important.
Qt is very strong, and the best is yet to come.

I'm looking forward to the date and location for the Europe conference. It remains to be seen whether I can talk my boss into sending me to a "non-official" conference.

@Peter
During the last years, the DevDays have been announced mid to late June. As we're approaching mid July right now, I'm pretty sure there will be no official DevDays this year - at least in a way they were in the past. Looking at the usual dates - mid to end October - of the past DevDays, it's too late to announce something right now - there would be only three months left until the conference. The mid June announcements from Nokia do not make DevDays from their side more probably. So, for my side - and I'm pretty sure from many other folks too - a big "Thanks!" to you and ICS for jumping in here. Everyone was looking forward to some developer conference this year. And even if it is not going to be as big as last years, it will be a good opportunity to meet old friends and come together with the folks that still have a strong interest in Qt.
As I probably can't make it to the states, I'm looking forward to an event in Europe.

Volker, thanks for spreading the good news!
It's nice to have events for the Qt community. I am using Qt primary for mobile apps development and the current situation forced me to focus on other technologies :( Despite this I may visit the event in Europe because I still truly love Qt.
-
Nice plan. Wondered already last year, if there is any QtDevDays in 2011.
Would be sad, if last years was the final one. I think right now is good time to start, as with C++11 and Qt5 comes a lot of new interest in both C++ and Qt.But I think it is pretty late, to actually plan and start an event in europe this year, especially in the size of QtDevDays or similar. I had already problems in June to find hotels in my region for 150 ppl.
-
Very interesting news! I am waiting for the European dates (if applicable). :-)

I love Qt too. New Meego phones built by jolla will be released later,do you consider developing apps for new meego devices?
-
@feynman Yes, I plan to port my open-source app location2sms from n9 to jolla devices as soon as they are available.

Thanks. I saw that the European office of KDAB are located in UK, Germany and France so I guess that Qt conference will be held in one of these countries :)

Seems like it might clash with "Meeting C++ Conference":http://meetingcpp.com (also with some Qt talks announced, including by KDABians).
