This is kind of surprise for me too, yes it is down. I am also getting this:
DNS service for this domain has expired with DNS Made Easy

To renew your DNS service now, please login to your account here and click on the Purchase/Upgrade/Renew link.

The IP is 87.238.52.168, so you can use git with it.

Gitorious has forgot to redo its DNS record agreement with its DNS provider, actual servers works with no problems.

I even set the domain to my nameserver for convenience :)

                It was "DNS providers fault":http://blog.gitorious.org/2010/12/23/dns-fail/

Yes, I had actually faced the same issue with some other sites too.

This might just be some coincidence.

gitorious.org and gitorious.net are again down now. Even the IP address "87.238.52.168":http://87.238.52.168 doesn't work.

Yes, it works now. It had a few hours of interruption.
                        They blogged about it. http://blog.gitorious.org/2013/02/26/gitorious-went-down-this-morning/
