Group Wiki - is it any different than "main" wiki? Why group wiki edited pages don't show on profile?
-
The group wiki is a seperate wiki, it's not a suppart of the main wiki. That also why you can only link with absolute urls between them.
Tagging in the group wikis was requested, but I think it's currently not implemented.

-
sorry, I currently don't find it :-(
-
Let me explain.
The group wiki is completely independent from the main wiki, which is why there is no integration with tagging or user profiles. And that is on purpose.
Our idea was to limit the groups to content that is only interesting to members of the group, at least during a certain period. As soon as a piece of content is interesting to everybody it should move to the main wiki where we do all we can to make sure it's discoverable.
Examples:
- a group of people is working on a large tutorial that is not quite ready for prime time
- translations of existing content (which might even stay in the group wiki)
- collaboration in the meta group
- a niche topic that is so niche that users would check the group anyway
Does that make sense?
-
Yes, that makes sense.
Would isolated tagging databases for group wikis make sense too?
When wiki pages can move between wikis, the tags could be literally exported. -
I think, the pages must be copied by hand, so by us.
If the wikis are seperated, how would you otherwise transfere the pages? -
Now it's done by hand. I imagine an export function for wiki pages for the future :)
-
While it sounds fancy and all, I have my doubts that we will put that on the list any time soon. Manual copy and paste sounds very doable to me.
-
But, you know, wishes are allowed :-)
-
:) Until I discovered tagging, I was just a wiki fan.

Thanks that is what I was looking for...
So in short: group wikis are for content that are for group members only... If they can serve the rest of the community they should moved to the main wiki by copy and paste...I guess the one page I have created so far is already on the wrong place :( I will work on it.

Are the groups already documented in the main wiki? Where?
