Sub-Category for Generic Qt Queries
-
Yes, I too feel that we can have a core forum for such things.
-
Not sure that we should have divided Desktop and Core. It will not solve the problem. Either Desktop will be totally empty and all question will be in Core or we will have a lot of misses. And I can't say that I can choose what topic should be in Desktop and what topic should be in Core.
-
Desktop won't be totally empty. We can have more specific queries there which apply only to desktops.

QtK, historically Qt is desktop framework. And 99% of questions in desktop environment (excluding win-specific, linux-specific or mac-specific) will be about core functionality of Qt (which you want to move to Core category).
-
qtrahul, I don't think we need so small categories. For example why you want to divide Desktop and Win categories?

Agreed with this suggestion. Maybe later it should be changed (when DevNet will be more mature) but not now.

Yes, you are right. But now things are changing "Qt is everywhere". The reason I was supporting to have a general or core category is that these questions may be common to mobile, embedded, windows, linux, maemo or any other category.

I agree on this. It's best to keep categories clean and short.

Today we might hear from the Queen :)

Happy new year to all. Shouldn't i get an email if someone posts on this forum (i have subscribed for this thread - double checked) because i didn't get any.
What happens if it is a desktop specific question? Will that get mixed with Qt General? I am confused.

Yes, if you have subscribed you should be getting an update via email. Although I have observed that sometimes you don't.

Haha, I'm flattered. Queen of Forums. :D
To get back to the topic: I can see the point for a more general forum. Actually, I was thinking about that when I set up the initial structure. But as we noticed now, it's a bit tricky. For now it's probably the best solution to combine "General" and "Desktop".
"Core" might be misleading since there will be a huge overlap with Qt on embedded...
