Will this be effective starting from today onwards. Or the points will be updated for all the past editing also. [/quote]

Updated for all the past editing.

      Hi,

I have implemented point calculation for more wiki edit now.

Now it is possible to obtain points for 5 wiki edit per day.
If same member edit same wiki multiple time in one day still they get point for one wiki edit only.
If same member edit 5 different wiki article then they get point for 5 wiki edits now.

Bonus points are also added later for each activity as mentioned in project Elf :)

              Thanks from me too. :)

Is there a wiki page describing the points system? "Points & Ranks":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/ranks looks be a bit outdated now.

Pretty sure Points & Ranks is the only port of call. If it's outdated, it should be updated. No need for wiki.

If there was a wiki page instead of a built-in one, nobody had to ask for the update.

But then only admins should be able to update it and even the current page can be updated by admins. However, the idea of having the page inside wiki is always better.

The page was only slightly outdated. Should be up to date now.

To give some insights into the thinking behind the point system, let me explain how it all came about. We obviously want to reward wiki edits with points. To reduce the chances of users gambling the system, we decided to limit the amount of "point-worthy" edits to 5 pages per day. It should make those happy who edit to improve the wiki and at the same time keep the damage under control that might potentially be done by those inserting random commas into a page just to receive the points for an edit.

                      Is this more clear now?

With a growing forum, a wiki will be more and more important for information accumulation. There knowledge can be better structured. I think tagging and rating threads systematically without a deeper look at the contents is a bigger problem. Was there vandalism observed yet in the wiki?

I think: Nobody will edit wiki pages just for fun, because it's by far harder to do this compared with tagging and rating. To be clear: I do not understand your logic on this point :(

Have to agree to this point.

And if someone adds some punctuation to an article and makes it lot easier for people to read, then he/she deserves some point. And if someone is adding unnecessary punctuations, the admins can warn them.

Also my understanding is that the current wiki edits points are just a temporary change and might be corrected(with better point allocation for wiki edits) once the project elf is over.

No. And I don't really expect vandalism to happen on the wiki. Forums are much easier target.

Let me turn it around: Would you have the time to seriously edit more than 5 pages in one day? And if you do, would you stop after the 5th page because you won't get any points? I do see your point, we are just trying to find a sane balance.

If it turns out that active users improve 10 pages per day in average, we will adjust. It's not like the point system is set in stone. :)

When I'm working in a wiki, I go after 20 to 50 edits a day. Wikipedia 2 to 5. Here, I don't know right now.
And Re: Why should other activities are evaluated consistently high?
