I think preview post was just meant to show how it would look when posted. I usually refresh the page and then make a post.

      I think it's a valid suggestion.
Other forums (like phpbb), give a notification that 'there were X new posts, are you sure you want to post?' and then show you the new posts.
However, in that case it is when you post rather than preview.

Here once we post they show the updated posts but no indications as you mentioned.

But notifications would help for sure.

I didn't realize that a browser refresh keeps my input intact.

Yeah, um, that's not working here! Google Chrome 8.
If I right click->reload or hit F5, I lose all my input.
            Which browsers and reload methods?

Weird thing is if I close the browser or force Chrome to die and then start it again, my input is still there.

No it does not. I refresh it before inputing any text.

I am also using chrome and I didn't mean to imply that the input text remains intact. What I do is usually refresh before making any input.

When I refresh after preview by hitting [F5], my new text is still there (Firefox 3.6.12 on WinXP)

                    Thats good.

But ideally I thought a refresh should update with the content completely from server. In chrome it happens so.

...I guess the text isn't stored on the server, but only processed for preview...

                        True.

If the text is saved after a refresh it's the browser being helpful.
