Multiple editing of one wiki article don't give multiple points (and this is correct). But sequential changes on different wiki pages don't give points also, only for first edit.

Yes that's correct, system gives point for first wiki edit in a day.

hi gurudutt, that has to be added to the bug list, what denis says is right, every wiki page if edited should give points, but only one edit per wiki page should earn points. Repeat edits should not

wouldn't it be easy to identify if only white spaces were edited or if content was changed, but again you have to filter out spelling corrections .. I'd say how about identifying if at least one new sentence was changed (added/removed)? is that feasible ?

Chetankjain, I'm agreed that some sort of heuristic needed there, but also as developers I can't say how it should be configured. Maybe based on number of characters changed and their entropy.

Though this is evil, only really reliable system is punishment system... Edit can 1000 lines long and just be copied from Wikipedia.

It's not a bug, it's on purpose. We're reconsidering though.

Can this still be abused? Someone can start a wiki by seeing a need for it, put in the title and leave it at that. Get the maximum points and the author who fills in all the details gets points for just one edit which is much lesser than for creating the wiki ... :)

Maybe give points based on the amount of content they added to the wiki. Only problem is you'll get the wiki full of 'fluff' like high school essays.

So here's my idea: To cover the initial points (5 is it?) for creating a wiki entry, it could be based on content BUT up to a certain limit (say 300 words) where you don't get extra points. So the points will be available until the first 300 words of that entry are filled.

Afterwards you only get point for first edit of the day.

                          Edit:
In fact, it may even be better not to advertise how points are made. You can make it complicated. That way those people won't try to work out what gets them the most points but rather just interact with the wiki/forum normally.

this might still not work, if you see the code snippets section, there can be many useful tips -- some code snips which are just a couple of lines but which could be a life saver for someone really stuck with a problem ... 300 words for points might not be ideal in that case

@xsacha, @chetankjain: This is the point where I dislike the QtDN points: It almost tempts one to focus too much on the "payment". But the work should be done first.

We'd better ask for a more social evaluation, something like the I-like-it way of facebook. But for edits itself (and for posts), not for entire pages (or threads).

We will be making a change to how we award points to wiki editing that might give some of you a solid bump in points tonight when the point script does its magic. This change is retroactive.

Now it will be like this: "you get points for editing up to 5 wiki pages a day" (not the same page though)

It's a change from: "you get points for editing only 1 wiki page a day"

Will this be effective starting from today onwards. Or the points will be updated for all the past editing also.

                                      Hi,

I have implemented point calculation for more wiki edit now.

Now it is possible to obtain points for 5 wiki edit per day.
If same member edit same wiki multiple time in one day still they get point for one wiki edit only.
If same member edit 5 different wiki article then they get point for 5 wiki edits now.

Bonus points are also added later for each activity as mentioned in project Elf :)
