Close a thread
-
Hi,
as I am the group owner of the windows group, I'm moderator (I think moderator? not admin) of the Desktop forum. Is it possible for me to close a discussion or can that only be done by admins? If that can only be done by admin, how about language forums, where perhaps no admin is in as non of the admins speaks the language?
-
If you see a thread that you think can be closed, just edit and try it out and let us know :)
-
I see the edit bar with the following links under each post:
edit move delete
and under the first post additionally split merge
Is there some description, what to do with that?
And if I click on edit, I can edit the post like my ones, but not close the discussion. -
You can check further with Marius .. looks like only admins can do it then ...
Under the first post, I see ...
- Make this an announcement
- Make this a sticky post
- Set post status to closed
-
Dinosaur Breeder: can become moderator of a subforum
Gene Splicer: can become moderator of the whole forum
Area 51 Engineer: can become admin of the forum -
The last one is missing for me, so I hope, Marius reads this tomorrow and answers :-)
And if for group forums, it should be admins, it's ok for me, I just wanted to know :-)Thanks
-
Area 51 is far, but gene splicer not... :-)
-
I volunteered late and jumped directly to admin role if I remember right :P ... so missed the intermediate step I guess.

So you are missing the "Set post status to closed" option when you click edit on the thread starter post?
There are three levels of access on the forum, normal - moderator and admin. Yours and chetankjains moderation options should be the same, in theory at least :)
-
I will check again and come back to you
-
I'm owner of Qt German group and therefore moderator in its forum, I do not have the "set post to closed" option either, when I click on the edit link for the thread starter post.
-
That's what I see when I click on edit on the first entry of "http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/2496":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/2496:

Isn't chetankjains admin in the forum? or is he moderator?
-
Oh, my apologies, chetankjain is an administrator of the forum and not a moderator. That explains the difference.
-
Ok, so for language forums, we need to contact admins (that might not be in the group forum) to close a thread, right?
-

Correct. We will add some guidelines on when closing a thread is the right thing to do. Please also see this thread for some background: http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/2272

To close thread you can just post a comment against the thread and one of the admins will close it. Tobias, Denis and me have these rights along with the super admins (the devnet team)
