today, my Pi arrived.
It only took one week through the benelux farnell provider minifo. I expected to get it next year following all the forum topics complaining about months of waiting. So if you want it for a newsyear present... go for it!

Now is play time!!

It has been an amazing journey last week:
Raspbian and Raspbmc are great and totally fun. How easy to install an image!

But still no Qt yet. And that is my main goal.

If i understand the current status, we are supposed to program on a pc and deploy to the pi. Is that right?
I was hoping to program with Qt Creator on the Pi directly. Is that possible?
there is no qtonpi image available that i'm aware of. Or did I miss it? I only found a very old one. I guess I'll have to compile Qt.

Any hints to the above remarks/questions are more than welcome.

Honestly I haven't tried to run Qt Creator on Raspberry Pi. But based on my experience with the GUI on my Pi I guess it will run very very slow :)

There is a QtonPi distro but it is outdated and it seems that it is not recommended by Raspberry Pi Foundation any more. "Details are available at our wiki":http://qt-project.org/wiki/Download. "You can download the images from raspberrypi.org":http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/images/qtonpi/

I installed libreoffice on the Pi and it was not that fast. So I think you are right, it will be too slow. Deployment from PC is the way to follow.

Yes, those images are the old ones I found already.

I already installed the qt50-snapshot and will try deploying a test program on the Pi.

Check it yourself. It looks rather smooth so I decided to try it out myself.
As a result Qt Creator is smoother than LibreOffice writer on the Pi.

Have a look at the "tutorial":https://qt-project.org/wiki/apt-get_Qt4_on_the_Raspberry_Pi I made. I hope lots of people that want to start programming discover Qt this way. Isn’t that the goal of the Raspberry Pi after all?

Quite understandable: Java vs. c++ comparison :) QtC is faster on standard PCs, too. Although, of course, both applications are too different to be compared.

I didn't know it was java.

just trying to tell that the Pi can do more than expected graphically.

It is possible to use the Pi for learning Qt Creator and I tested some examples already. Of course it's not as fast as my PC ;-)
