Android WebView Black after Load

I am setting a url and showing a QML WebView on Android. The load completes successfully and the view signals visible. But, the view is empty or blank, just black.
If I suspend the app and do some other tasks on the device and then return, the WebView works correctly the next time I set the url and display it. From there on out it works as expected when I display it with a new url.
This does not happen on iOS and Windows, the view shows correctly the first time. Anyone experience this before or have a clue as to what might be happening and how to remedy?
I tried reloading and updating after the first load, but nothing changes. It is only when I leave and return to the app that the WebView starts behaving.
