Creator: Selectively close multiple documents quickly?

After working for a while, by "Open documents" holds several pages of documents. I see immediately which ones I can close, but I have not found a quick way to do so:
If I click on the "x" of one of those documents, the view often jumps several pages to another document which is now in view. This prevents me from closing multiple documents in rapid succession.
Also, I have not found a way to multi-select documents for closing.Do you know any way to quickly close multiple documents (except the "Close all" and "Close visible", which isn't selective enough)
