What would be the best way to draw this shape (the area filled with blue, not the entire shape):

I also need to be able to interact with it (like resize or move it by dragging), so I assume this should be a QGraphicsItem, am I right?

No, you can draw it pretty much anywhere you want (even on an ordinary QWidget). About the actual drawing: a filled QPainterPath?
