Cursor's vertical alignment

I have a desktop application using Qt 5.9. Here is a screenshot of a control I have.

Here I have a multiline control where the cursor aligns at the top with the "N" and extends several pixels below it.

Compare that to:

Notice here how the cursor is more centered.

Both controls are a QPlainTextEdit and have similar property settings. What could cause this difference and how can it be fixed?
