Photoshop question about locking the application when running Qt

Hey guys, I have a question for anyone who's created a QT application for a Photoshop plugin, I just have a few questions.
I'm creating an automation plugin in PS and currently the UI that is created with the HWND class in C++ it locks the photoshop process while waiting for a callback, is this the same with QT? Will it lock the application while artists have it open? The only time I've seen a plugin open in PS and a user able to call UI on PS was when someone hooked into the canvas.
