[Suggestion] Add the title of the thread to the notification email.

  • Suggestion 1:

The current email notification does not have any info on which forum this thread was posted in, sometimes just the thread title and the post content would not make much sense. If I know its in some forum that I'm specially interested in, I would follow the thread.

    Suggestion 2:

The current email notification currently shows

bq. The post can be found at:

which anyways gets redirected to "http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/790/#3479":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/790/#3479
Why not include the latter itself, you also have the thread number visible. Some could keep track of threads by their numbers. I do.

  • #1 We have a feature request for adding author name to the e-mail notification, I'll see if we can get the forum name in there as well.

#2 This is because a comment can be moved around by moderators, using only the comment ID makes sure the link always works.

  • #2: ok that makes sense :)

  • Any chance of having an e-mail reply option?

  •
Any chance of having an e-mail reply option?
Not yet, sorry.

  •
#1 We have a feature request for adding author name to the e-mail notification, I'll see if we can get the forum name in there as well.
+1 for the author name :-)

I miss it when I read the notification e-mails on mobile phone.

  • "Someone just posted in Qt DevNet forums" it is anything but helpful.

I would suggest adding the title of the thread and/or the name of the user that posted.

  • Yes, the thread name and the author would be nice.
There is "this thread about the mail notifications":http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/828 .

  • -Admins: please cancel this thread or merge into the one cited by anselmolsm (I failed to find it before starting a new one)-

  • Any need to make this one into a suggestion on qt bugs? This would a good enhancement to have...

I am still not clear if it matters or not to create the suggestions on bugreports once it seems that they all end on mariusg lap anyway (mariusg: I hope you are not tired of suggestions :) ) Please advice!

  • I'm the filter for all bug reports and suggestions, and I can only say "the more the better" - it's the "material" we build this site with - so to speak. :)

Having them in JIRA is best but I can pick them up from the forum as well. During Project Elf I've been thinking about requesting people to use JIRA more - due to the high traffic on the forums and that I might miss something otherwise.

  • Has anybody added this one to the bug reports? Mariusg? I will if nobody has ....

I will add another thread for this but I would suggest that the admins should close threads as soon as there is a reference to a bug report being created on JIRA. This way all the comments will be redirected to the bug reports system - I can only imagine that keeping track of comments on two places is not feasible for the developers working on them.

  • nice point fcrochik, pls go ahead and log a but in jira and post the id here, we could probably just close this. i agree no point in tracking in 2 places. we first discuss/brainstorm here and push to jira

  • This is the bug report:
    http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTWEBSITE-132

Another "behavior" suggestion is that when someone creates a bug report based on a devnet thread he/she should make sure to add a link back to the thread on the bug report.

i would recommend updating the bugtracker with all required/relevant info so developers don't have to go hunting in other links/threads. the forum might have not of additional and non relevant info too in the same thread ... developers don't have to shuffle through some 20 replies for a thread to understand what is happening.

  • That would be ideal but I think having the link will never hurt... As a developer I like to have as much context information I can before deciding to act on.... Of course noise doesn't help!

I would like to have the link and the relevant information but don't want to make too difficult for people to file bugs or they may end up not doing it.

  • I've updated the "bug report":http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTWEBSITE-132 with a suggested e-mail notification format, have a look and feel free to improve it :)

  • mariusg, also the RSS feed should include similar information. Also updated the bug report with one comment :)

  • hey chetankjain, in the RSS we supply something like:

    @
<title>[Suggestion] Download size info would be useful</title>
    <link>http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewreply/32471</link>
    <author>chetankjain</author>
    ...
    @

Anything else you are looking for?

  • @mariusg, you are right! I will update the bug .. its confirmed I need a vacation :(

  • mariusg, back again on the same thing, once someone posts a reply to a post, the feed does not have the author of the reply, my Google reader shows the original post author and not the replier ... should that be fixed by sending the replier in the author tag?
