An issue QChart callout example: callout tooltip box overshadowed by a white rectangle

While replicating the qchart callout example (http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtcharts-callout-example.html), I have noticed a white rectangle overshadowing the tooltip box. The difference between the example and the replica is the lineseries input (a sql query). What would be the likely causes?
