Finger print read

i want use finger print reader for when finger is scanned find if user is authorized or not, for open the program or not.
I use Windows Xp and Visual Studio 2010(c++) and qt, my program is made with qt, but i don't get a way for work for finger print reader from qt.
I need..
first: know what libraries or api is needed for can use the finter print
second: catch events when a finger print is read
and third: how i can recognize the finger print (an example if is posible)

@SGaist I use the Microsoft fingerprint reader usb (I find this model was made by digitalperson and is the model DigitalPersona U.are.U 4000B or U.are.U 2500)
