can't connect to device

I am using QTcreator with ubuntu, and I've trouble connecting to the device with the root / ssh test option.
Can anyone shed some light on this ?
I have ping/telnet. But I usually don't use ssh or host name. I probably miss something which I'm not familiar with...

I'm not sure. I think I will use the Eclipse compiler with its gdb remote debugging for Qt. I'm already familiar with that. Is that Possible with Qt application ?
