Qt SDK 1.1-rc runtime problem on Linux
-
Hi,
I thought I would take a look at the QtSDK release candidate today. I managed to get it installed OK within my home directory under Linux. However, on trying to launch qt-creator I found that it would not run as it was built against libpng12. My system only has libpng14 available - and has done for quite a long time now.
My main interest in using the SDK as opposed to my system installed Qt libs and tools is to be able to use the symbian remote compiler and to be able to deploy my app to a symbian phone. What tools from the sdk do I need to do this? I figure that I need the remote compiler plugin for qt-creator so I will see if I can get the source for that and build that (I'll even try to make a patch for the qt-creator ebuild for Gentoo). What else do I need to build or obtain?
Thanks for any hints.

Have you "reported a bug":http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/?
Talking about issues here will not get them fixed:-(

Not yet, I was just wondering if anybody else had come across this or whether I am in a minority since I am running quite a bleeding edge Gentoo system. I could imagine other distro's particularly those with a long term support obligation could still be shipping libpng12.
I'll report the bug. Maybe the best solution would be to ship with libpng statically compiled in so that the dependency on the system provided libpng is removed.
Alternatively, it might be nice to release a source version of the SDK so that it can be built and packages by the distros themselves. Right now the SDK tries to bypass the distro package manager which I do not think is a good way forward.
