Checking website for program updates

Hello,
I'm trying to publish my program and now I need to make a routine that checks whether program updates are available or not.
I've got a website where people can download my program (later) and I just need to know how I realize that.
Is there a general way to manage this? I think the easiest way would be getting data from a MySQL database, but I don't know whether this is possible via Qt or not...Does anyone know how I can handle with that?
