QtCreator locks up the system when starting

I have installed Qt twice now and it still locks up the entire system when I try to start QtCreator. The only way to recover is to power off the system.
I’m running Windows XP with all the latest updates and service packages. This system has worked flawlessly for several years. I’m also running ZoneAlarm and Webroot SecureAnywhere.
Please let me k now if you have any ideas that may help.
