High DPI windows 8.1 QtCreator

Does anyone know of a way to scale QtCreator to work with high dpi screens? I just got a mbp retina 15" and I run windows 8.1 in VMware. The user interface in QtCreator is absolutely tiny (besides anything that is text based like the code output and the project window). Is there anyway to scale the icons on the interface, or the bottom panels?

I read somewhere that you can set an environment variable to play with the DPI settings:
QT_HIGDPI_SCALE_FACTOR=2

I tried this, an no changes were visible. Is this specific to a certain build?

The Qt Blog also says that it's experimental code that is on github. So you will probably not get it in a normal release, so far.
