Phonon and live video from capture card?

Every time I start reading up on phonon and the Qt interface, I get lost in the maze, but so far I haven't found anything about being able to use it to display live video directly from a TV or video capture card. Can it do that? If so, can anyone point me to examples? If live video isn't part of the equation, any pointers for the best way to use lower level code in Qt to display the video? (I'm primarily interested in linux, and the card I may get uses the linux bttv driver).
