Problem configuring the compiler
-
I'm getting that all too common error message when I try to compile: Qt Creator needs a compiler set-up to build...
I got minGW installed already. It's listed in Build & Run - Compilers.
Path variable is set too. minGW is there. Not sure what to do.

Hi,
Do you mean the MinGW from the Qt installer ?
-
No I installed MinGW separately. I downloaded that from some site.
-
And which version of Qt did you install ?
-
3.0.0 based on 5.2.0 that's what it says in the About box.
-
That's the version of Qt Creator. What installer did you use ?
-
I think it may have been 5.2.0 msvc2012 x86 64 offline.
I've got many downloads in my Internet Downloads folder so I'm not entirely certain.

I read in one of your other posts that you need Visual Studio 2012 on your computer for this to work. I don't have the 2012 version, but I have the 2008 Standard version.
So maybe I need to either download the other version of Qt that comes packaged with minGW already or else download VS 2012?

The choices:
Download VS2012 (only the express edition is available now that 2013 is out)
Compile Qt yourself with 2008
Install the MinGW version (remove the other MinGW you installed first)
If you are just starting, go with number 3, you'll be up and running faster
