Torrents for downloads
-
Hi
I live in Mumbai, India. I and generally many others don't reliable and fast internet connection. The Qt 5.2.0 for Windows 32-bit (MinGW 4.8, OpenGL) is 689 MB. The online method is not possible due to slow and unreliable internet connection. And even offline is not possible . Last time it takes me 5 to 6 trials to download that. Is it possible that all downloads can have option of torrent ? If it is already available, please give me instructions and if not, please tell me is it possible ?

Hi,
There are no torrents at the moment, unfortunately.
This is a problem on the qt-project.org side as well. Please see http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/36351/ . To counteract slow/unreliable connections, I recommend using a download manager (example: http://www.downthemall.net/ )

Hi,
The download manager can improve download speeds a bit and give you some protection against disconnections, but it cannot fix your internet service provider. If your ISP is poor, then even torrents will take you >5 hours.
Is your download speed faster when you use the the download manager? (Compared to your download speed WITHOUT the manager)
What download speeds do you normally have (when downloading files not from qt-project.org)?
Which download manager are you using?
Which package did you try to download? Is it "Qt Creator 3.0.0 for Windows (66 MB)" or something else?

I think torrent based downloads are superior to standard HTTP ones, I have proposed creating torrent downloads for Qt several times, but there is not much interest in it coming from the release team.
If I manage to kick off my tbus project, Qt will be the first repository I will create ;) Until then, JKSH's suggestion is the way to go.

Pramod85, download only QtBase.
http://download.qt-project.org/official_releases/qt/5.2/5.2.0/submodules/I also vote for torrents, it will reduce the costs with the download servers.

With or without download manager, my download speed doesn't exceed 60 kbps.

55 kbps

Jdownloader. I use for protection against disconnections.

both qt creator and Qt 5.2.0 for Windows 32-bit (MinGW 4.8, OpenGL) which takes more then 24 hours. Normally it should done in 5 hrs.
I agree with u but in torrent i get constant speed and take less time. Even it breaks, it again gain speed if seeds are enough.
Thank u MarianMMX for support. And sierdzio, happy to know i am not the only person who thinks that way. Please keep proposing. I will support the idea if vote is taken

In the Downloads page, click on the link called "(Info)", next to the package you want to download. Try different mirrors until you find a fast one.

Hi,
I am currently trying to download Qt from a mobile connection at about 8kB/s. The installer always fails and restarts the packages it has started to download and downloading the packages also quits every few hours and cannot always be resumed. Torrents would fix this problem since downloads can run for months and quit all the time and still finish correctly in the end.
I will now have to wait for two weeks to get a better internet connection to download Qt... which will be a tough time. :D
Anyway, I would vote for Torrent downloads as well.
