Where to Post?

Can someone provide some guidance/suggestions as to when something should be posted in a forum and when it should be posted in a group.

I think it goes like this:

if you want an answer, ask in the forum
if you need to ask in another language, use group forums

Personally, I never check the group chat/ update page, I only use new_topic_search (the "x new posts" link) to see who needs help.

I'm more interested in the Special Interest Groups. As an example, if I wanted to post something about Qt Creator, when would I use the Tools forum and when would I use the Qt Creator group?
