Starting a QFileDialog on "Computer" virtual folder on Windows 7

  • Hello,

    Using Qt 5.1.0 (MinGW) on Windows 7 (64-bit).

    In a Windows-specific branch of code, I would like to select a directory using getExistingDirectory() and initially open the dialog box on the "Computer" virtual folder. The idea is that the user has to select a drive letter.

    Browsing the net, I found the following method:

    @QFileDialog::getExistingDirectory(this, title, "::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}")@

    In the various posts, some people report this to work and others not to work. Indeed, the CLSID seems correct since copy/pasting this in the address bar of my Windows Explorer sends me to "Computer".

    But the QFileDialog does not start on "Computer", it starts on the current directory and the following error message appears on the console:

    @shellItem: SHCreateItemFromParsingName(:)) failed ()@

    Is there a reliable way to start a QFileDialog on the "Computer" virtual folder on Windows 7?

    Since some people reported the above CLSID to work, is this a matter of Qt version or Windows version? These posts seemed a bit old.

    Thanks,
    -Thierry
