Qt Installer Framework : How to manage dependencies

  • Hi!

    SITUATION :
I need to deploy my Qt5 application under Linux and I'm targeting Debian like distributions first.

I already did the job by creating a .deb using dpkg-buildpackage and installing everything in an folder in /opt. (I had to use this system instead of /usr/* because my application updates itself at each launch, thus, I need the right to overwrite files and executables without root credentials)

I didn't like this solution... and I saw Qt Installer Framework (IFW) => Installing everything in user space, like when installing Qt libraries or Qt Creator.

I'm packaging Qt5 libs with the applications because all distribution package manager are not yet including Qt5 libs.

But, with IFW, what about dependencies of my Qt5 libs?

    No more : @Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}@

    for handling them... (I need stuff like libglib2.0-0 libglu1-mesa-dev libxrender1 libxcomposite1 libxslt1.1 libgstreamer0.10-0 libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0)

    QUESTIONS :
I was wondering if I can make a meta-package which would contains only dependencies. I would need to launch it in root mode during the installation.

Is it the good solution? Have you any other idea? Have you already encounter this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help ;-)
