Windows Installation Problem
-
I just downloaded the Windows 64-bit installer. When I try to install it in C:\Program Files\Qt\5.1.0\ I get an error message saying I am using invalid characters in the path name. Is this a bug? I think spaces have been allowed in file and folder names since Windows 95?

Hi and welcome to devnet,
Don't install Qt in a path with spaces on windows, it's always been a source of problem.
The default install path is generally C:\Qt, you'd better use it and it will save you a whole lot of troubles.

OK. Thanks for the info. It's a bit bizarre though!

You're welcome !
The tools have been improved to manage them better, but I can assure you, less spaces will alleviate a lot your work.
If everything is running fine now, can you update the thread's title to solved so other forum users may know a solution has been found :)

Is this a 'feature' of Windows 64-bit installer only or is it on all platforms? Is there any background documentation about this? I'm surprised that there aren't more posts on the subject - may be I just can't find them.
I hope to find time to re-try the installation over the weekend.
Thanks for your help.

It's essentially a Windows problem (IIRC there was also something about non latin1 character once in this forum).
The old saying is: avoid spaces when developing on Windows :)
