Installation for Dummies??? (MAC OS 10.6.8)
-
Hello,
I am a graphic artist working with a programmer who uses QT on another platform (so he can't really answer all my questions).
I want to install QT on my MAC (running OS 10.6.8) to enable me to do some of the screen layouts and animations for a game we are developing. I have never used QT, I know less-than-zilch about it, but I'm told it's similar to working with an xml based editor I used before.
This looks like what I want...
http://doc.qt.digia.com/qtcreator-2.2/creator-using-qt-quick-designer.htmlI have downloaded this file, but not sure if the qt designer is included...
http://download.qt-project.org/official_releases/qt/5.0/5.0.2/qt-mac-opensource-5.0.2-clang-offline.dmgDuring install, I got an alert that installation failed due to me not having installed Xcode prior to installing QT.
MUST I install Xcode if all I want to do is use the QT designer? So, I am like a baby who hasn't yet learned to walk, but "I want to go to there." Can someone please help me with my first baby steps.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to devnet,
Before installing Xcode, try to just install QtCreator (on the same download page further down) It should provide you with the tools you need.
If that's not the case, then the installation of Xcode will be mandatory. It's not hard either, IIRC you can get it from the mac app store.
Hope it helps
PS: it's Qt, QT stands for Apple's QuickTime :)

OK. Thanks.
I installed, but now I get anerror saying I am missing a Help plugin:

I also just got this when I tried to click on the Designer icon after opening a file my programmer built yesterday.

OK. Now I finally found the standalone Qt Creator, installed it, opened a qml file and got this:
The executable of the QML Puppet process (/Applications/Qt Creator.app/Contents/MacOS/qmlpuppet.app/Contents/MacOS/qml2puppet) cannot be found. Please check your installation. QML Puppet is a process which runs in the background to render the items.
Can I please get a package with everything needed to run the program?
