Win XP Embedded - "The memory could not be "read"."

  • Hello.

I have written two small QT applications (QT4.7.4) and compiled under Windows with dynamic linking.
The Qt DLL files has been copied to the folder with an executable and everything works fine on my Windows 7 x64 box and virtual Windows XP SP3.

Now I am trying to run this application on my HP T5720 thin client box with windows XP Embedded SP3 and I am getting this error message:

    mtest: mtest.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x6ff5d460" referenced memory at "0x00050043". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program

The second address is not constant, sometimes it's 0x0, sometimes 0x30003, etc.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem or where to start looking?
I have already tried to scan this executable with Dependency Walker and copy some DLLs from XP SP3 - no result.

    Hi and welcome to DevNet,

I would check that all pointers are initialized at zero. If any pointer is not initialized to something in a constructor, check it each time an operation should be done on it.

If you have memory allocated with malloc or similar, check that you don't read from it past its end.

    Hope it helps
