Question regarding moderators
-
Hi everybody,
I was randomly trawling the forums and ended up at the moderators page where I had a peek at who the site moderators are.
So this is the odd thing, how did "Kamran Mackey":http://qt-project.org/member/132084 become a forum moderator?
(I mean no offense, I am just genuinely intrigued since he doesn't fit "the usual profile" so to speak)
Just wondering :)

Curiousity is Ok, for sure.
I'm personally fine if there is no "official" answer as I don't feel there should have to be a reason to become trusted.
Unless people find a reason that trust is not deserved, naturally. Untill then, I'll trust that the moderators are trusted :) -
bq. Ranks - Rights
All logged-in users can comment, rate and create content on wikis and forums. By leveling up you will extend your rights on the network step by step.- Ant Farmer: can tag (while were in Open Beta all ranks can tag) and add doc notes
- Hobby Entomologist: can remove existing tags
- Robot Herder: can request a group
- Dinosaur Breeder: can become moderator of a subforum
- Gene Splicer: can become moderator of the whole forum
- Area 51 Engineer: can become admin of the forum
- Mad Scientist: is full of win and awesomeness (and will receive some special attention, trust us!)
A curious case indeed, coz as per the above Ranks-Right a mod should atleast have Gene Splicer rank. BTW whats the procedure to apply for a site moderator ?

Hang around in #qt-devnet-moderators (freenode network) on IRC. At one point, you'll be like: "could somebody make me moderator? Less work to just do the fixes myself than reporting them all the time!" :-) That's when you ask to get moderator rights. And get them, usually, if you haven't behaved like an *** on the forums. It is not an automatic upgrade once you have earned enough points. Note that also people who have earned their trust in other parts of the Qt community can be granted rights.
There have been some discussions on different aspects of the management of qt-project.org recently, and this is one of them, by the way.

Wonder if it wasn't a glitch in the matrix ;)

Thats explains alot but again brings to a question "Mailing lists vs Forums":http://qt-project.org/forums/viewthread/24202. I was just curious to know (like many) about the procedure, as on the forums less information is provided. For the 3 stars , I think people dont join the forum to behave in that way.
And finally for the moderator's rank , yes its a position that should be Earned and after few checks/filters rights should be granted.
Thanks for updating us :-)

For now it is the most reasonable explanation. The kid is obviously not some programming whiz wunderkind, and at this early age is hardly moderator material. So it is either a site bug or some form of preferential treatment that voids almost all of my logic.

I think this might have happened through a glitch, testing and learning the admin console for group approval last week. Let me see how I can correct it. Please accept my apologies.

Definitely nothing to apologise for, was purely curiosity :)
Thanks for closing the case! :D
