New private message alert feature request
-
It would be nice to have an optional feature to show popup of new private message whenever user is logged in. In the past I missed to check my email and could not revert back soon - but I was online in the forums and could have reverted if some pop up indication was shown.

I agree it might be better for when online, but I think I'd like it to still send email if I'm not online. Or an settings to control the behavior.

[/quote]Yes it would still send the email. I have seen this feature in almost all forums. Specially used by administrators to send some message.

It also would be nice if we could read the message here, too. That's the only kind of message, that cannot be handled on the site here.

A popup maybe it's too much, but a note, where your avatar and your data is displayed, like "you've received private messages" it would be nice.
-
Wait: there are private messages? I thought just emails.
-
Yes, it's an email sent to you, like the notifications of posts. But if you are focused on the web, like right now some people are (you know why ;)), but you might forget the messages, because if you are like me, you've setup a filter, and you may not notice it.

Maybe a private message is a useful part of a forum, but only for a 'private' session to the user.
Sometimes is quick send a message to user without create a new post (becouse the message is not useful for the forum) -
Private messages would be a nice feature, and also some state displayed on the page near the avatar. But I wouldn't use a popup (as I hate popups :-), especially on the web ).

Maybe some text info about incoming private message under the user name in the right of the page can be a nice position?

I've written about private messages here: http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/2368/#13878
Looking for feedback :)
